Credibility
The machine has thirty years left in it. The control system does not.
Many industrial gas turbines remain mechanically viable long after their original control systems become obsolete. For units installed in the 1980s and 1990s, the challenge is often not the turbine itself, but the aging control platform supporting it. OEM support may have ended years ago, replacement parts can be difficult to source, and much of the remaining system knowledge may rest with a shrinking group of experienced specialists. OEM modernization programs can address those issues, but they often require migration to another proprietary platform. Innova Technologies offers a more flexible approach.
We engineer gas turbine control systems using open-architecture hardware and documented IEC 61131-3 logic, giving operators greater visibility, maintainability, and long-term control. Our experience spans aeroderivative and heavy-duty frame turbines in both generator-drive and mechanical-drive applications. Innova Technologies has applied controls across more than 40 gas turbine types, including GE Frame and LM series, Siemens, Westinghouse, Solar, Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, Allison, Alstom, Mitsubishi, ABB Stal, Ruston, Hispano, Orenda, Kongsberg, and Helan machines.
Applications
Complete replacement of obsolete electro-hydraulic, analog electronic, relay, and pneumatic control equipment with a fully documented, open-architecture control system. Each retrofit is engineered around the turbine, its auxiliaries, and its operating requirements rather than adapted from a generic template.
Emissions control capabilities include dry low-NOx combustion management, piloted premix staging, combustion mode logic, and wet control using water or steam injection. Closed-loop trim can also be integrated with continuous emissions monitoring system data, with alarm and trip logic configured to site-specific operating and permit requirements.
Control system retrofits are designed to minimize the field work required to return the turbine to reliable operation. Where existing control wiring remains serviceable, field terminal block interfaces can be arranged so existing cables land directly on the new system. Reusing suitable field wiring can eliminate the need to pull new cables to turbine junction boxes, skids, or field devices, reducing installation work and helping shorten the outage.
Isochronous and droop governing are tuned to the specific turbine, driven equipment, and fuel system dynamics. Control strategies can include acceleration limiting, output limits, anti-windup protection, and base load, peak, pre-selected, and peak reserve operating modes with smooth, bumpless transfer between modes.
Innova Technologies designs, supplies, and controls water and steam injection skids for NOx reduction and power augmentation. Rather than treating the skid as a stand-alone package, the injection system is integrated with the turbine's fuel and combustion controls for coordinated operation. Innova Technologies has also published a technical white paper on water injection for NOx reduction.
Control solutions can include black start sequencing, isochronous governing for island operation, and droop control for operation on an infinite grid. Load acceptance and rejection are managed within the turbine's operating limits to support stable operation during changing grid conditions. Innova Technologies has also published technical work covering black start applications for the GE Frame 5.
Fuel control solutions are available for gas-only, liquid-only, and dual-fuel turbines, including upgrades that add gas or liquid-fuel capability to existing applications. Systems can support single-valve, two-valve, and multi-valve configurations, including speed-ratio and fuel-control valves, pilot and main valves, and dry low-NOx combustion systems. Capabilities include precise fuel metering, flow-divider monitoring, nozzle purging, and dual-fuel transfer logic for smooth switching under load. Soft light-off algorithms help provide reliable, repeatable ignition during startup.
Machinery protection can include radial and axial vibration monitoring to API 670 where required, exhaust temperature averaging and spread monitoring, individual thermocouple monitoring, lube oil protection, and independent hardware overspeed protection. Hardwired trip relays, annunciation, and first-out event capture can also be incorporated to support faster troubleshooting and reliable shutdown protection.
Startup and shutdown sequences can be automated from auxiliary sequencing and purge through ignition, light-off detection, acceleration, warm-up, run-up, synchronization, loading, and shutdown. Engineered sequences can include defined hold points, clear alarm messaging, and operator-selectable automatic and manual modes.
For gas turbine-driven compression and pumping applications, Innova Technologies can integrate turbine and compressor control into a coordinated system. Capabilities include sequencing, anti-surge control, capacity control, DCS integration, and a unified operator interface for the complete train.

A MESSAGE FROM JOHN KAZOUR, CEO
To our customers and partners,
For more than 50 years, our team has helped customers keep critical operations running. We built our reputation as Petrotech by taking responsibility for control systems on important rotating machinery.
As more industries came to us with similar challenges across power generation, compression, and hydro applications, our engineering team kept finding ways to solve them. Eventually, the business outgrew the Petrotech name.
We are entering our next chapter as Innova Technologies. The new name reflects the full scope of our work as a rotating machinery control systems specialist. We engineer controls around the machine, deliver complete projects from design through commissioning, and provide support that stays with the problem until it is solved.
Our name is changing, but the people, engineering experience, and commitment behind the work continue. Our responsibility to active projects and installed systems carries forward under the Innova Technologies name. Your current contacts remain the right place to start, and we will communicate directly if an administrative record requires an update.
We appreciate the trust you have placed in us over the decades, and we look forward to continuing that work as Innova Technologies.
CEO, Innova Technologies
