Instrumentation Specification

The control strategy is only as good as what it can measure. We specify, size, and document the instrumentation your control system depends on, so the control loop works the first time it is put in service.

Measurement Comes First

Control logic cannot fix a wrong measurement to begin with

Most loops that will not tune were specified badly, not programmed badly.

A flow element sized for a duty the machine no longer runs, a transmitter whose range leaves the operating point in the bottom five percent of span, a thermowell with a response time longer than the disturbance it is meant to catch: each produces a loop that no amount of tuning will rescue. Innova Technologies specifies instrumentation as part of the control engineering rather than as a procurement afterthought, because the people writing the control narrative are the ones who know what the measurement has to do.

Sized for the Duty

Selected and sized against the operating envelope, not the design point

Machines spend most of their life away from the condition they were sized at.

We size and select against the full operating envelope: startup, turndown, upset, and the seasonal extremes, not just the nameplate case. That covers flow element and control valve sizing, transmitter range and turndown, thermowell selection and wake frequency, and the accuracy and response time each loop genuinely requires. Where a measurement is used for protection rather than control, the specification changes accordingly, including redundancy and voting arrangement.

Certified for the Area

Area classification carried through to every instrument on the list

An instrument with the wrong certification is a project delay discovered at inspection.

Instrument selection is matched to the area classification and the certification regime in force, whether that is ATEX, IECEx, or NEC Division and Zone practice under IEC 60079. Protection concept, intrinsic safety barrier and loop calculations, enclosure rating, and cable and gland specification all follow from that. Innova maintains in-house hazardous area engineering expertise and a UL-listed panel shop, so the instrument list and the panel it lands in are specified against the same requirements.

Documented to Standard

Datasheets, index, and loop diagrams your procurement team can actually buy from

A specification nobody can purchase against is not finished.

Deliverables follow recognized ISA practice: instrument datasheets, a maintained instrument index, loop diagrams, and hook-up details, consistent with the P&ID symbology and the control narrative for the same project. Calibration ranges, tag numbering, and the cause-and-effect matrix all reconcile against one another, because the most common source of commissioning delay is documents that disagree.

Single-Source Solution

Part of a single-source control & Instrumentation solution

One team specifies the measurement, writes the logic, builds the panel, and tests all three together.

Instrumentation specification is rarely bought on its own, and it works best when it is not. The same engineering team that specifies the instruments writes the control application, fabricates the panel, and proves the complete loop at factory acceptance test under our ISO 9001 quality program. Instruments are selected on suitability rather than on a supplier relationship, and where a plant instrument standard exists, we work to it

A MESSAGE FROM JOHN KAZOUR, CEO

Welcome to Innova Technologies

To our customers and partners,

For more than 50 years, our team has helped customers keep critical operations running. We built our reputation as Petrotech by taking responsibility for control systems on important rotating machinery.

As more industries came to us with similar challenges across power generation, compression, and hydro applications, our engineering team kept finding ways to solve them. Eventually, the business outgrew the Petrotech name.

We are entering our next chapter as Innova Technologies. The new name reflects the full scope of our work as a rotating machinery control systems specialist. We engineer controls around the machine, deliver complete projects from design through commissioning, and provide support that stays with the problem until it is solved.

Our name is changing, but the people, engineering experience, and commitment behind the work continue. Our responsibility to active projects and installed systems carries forward under the Innova Technologies name. Your current contacts remain the right place to start, and we will communicate directly if an administrative record requires an update.

We appreciate the trust you have placed in us over the decades, and we look forward to continuing that work as Innova Technologies.
