Hydraulic-to-Electric Control Valve Conversions

As an option within a controls upgrade, we engineer the conversion of hydraulically actuated turbine control valves to fully electric actuation, removing hydraulic actuation where you want its benefits gone.

Control

Converting hydraulic control-valve actuation to fully electric, as part of a controls upgrade

As an option within a controls upgrade, Innova Technologies engineers the conversion of hydraulically actuated turbine control valves to fully electric actuation, removing hydraulic actuation where the customer wants its benefits. We provide the engineering for the upgrade and integrate the electric actuation with the control system. We do not design or fabricate hydraulic power units, and we do not manufacture the valve.

For some operators, eliminating hydraulic actuation on a turbine control valve, and the associated HPU, fluid, and maintenance, is an attractive option during a controls modernization. Where it fits the machine, we specify the electric actuator and design the mechanical and control interface so the new actuation integrates cleanly with the upgraded control system. Our role is the upgrade engineering and integration; the customer gets a simpler, lower-maintenance electric actuation arrangement.

The Problem

Hydraulic actuation adds maintenance and failure points some operators would rather eliminate

Hydraulic actuation of turbine control valves brings hydraulic power units, fluid-cleanliness requirements, servo valves, and the maintenance and failure modes that come with them. Where an operator would prefer to remove that complexity, converting the affected control valve to electric actuation can simplify the machine and reduce maintenance, provided the conversion is engineered correctly for the specific valve and control bandwidth.

Innova Technologies provides that conversion engineering as an option within a controls upgrade.

Capabilities

Hydraulic-to-electric conversion capabilities

Hydraulic-to-Electric Actuation Conversion Engineering

Engineer the replacement of hydraulic control-valve actuation with a fully electric actuator, assessing feasibility for the specific valve, selecting a suitable commercially available electric actuator, and designing the mechanical and control interface.

Electric Actuation Control Integration

Integrate the electric actuation with the turbine control system, position control and feedback, tuning, alarms, and interlocks, as part of the controls upgrade.

Conversion Feasibility Assessment

Evaluate the existing valve, actuator, and control requirements to determine whether an electric conversion is appropriate and what interface is required. Innova provides the engineering for the upgrade: we do not design or fabricate hydraulic power units (HPUs) and do not manufacture the control valve; commercially available actuators and valves are specified and supplied as needed.

Why Innova Technologies

Independent conversion engineering, integrated with your controls

We recommend electric conversion on engineering merit, and deliver it as part of a turbine controls upgrade, not as a bolt-on.
OEM-independent, engineering-led
We’re independent of the OEM. We recommend electric conversion on engineering merit, not to sell hardware, evaluating each valve on its own terms and specifying commercially available actuation only where it fits the machine.
Delivered within a controls upgrade
Conversion engineering is delivered as an integrated part of a turbine controls upgrade, so the electric actuation and the upgraded control system are designed and commissioned together rather than in isolation.
Integrated and tuned, not bolted on
Electric actuation is integrated and tuned with the control system, position control and feedback, tuning, alarms, and interlocks, so the new actuation behaves as part of the machine, not an add-on.
Single-scope engineering to FAT
Complete upgrade engineering, integration, commissioning, and Factory Acceptance Testing under a single scope, one accountable team from feasibility through commissioning.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Innova design or build hydraulic power units (HPUs)?
No. We provide the engineering for the upgrade and integrate the electric actuation with the control system. We do not design or fabricate hydraulic power units.
No. We provide the conversion engineering and specify commercially available hardware, including the electric actuator, which is supplied as needed. We do not manufacture the control valve.
We engineer the replacement of hydraulic control-valve actuation with a fully electric actuator, assessing feasibility for the specific valve, selecting a suitable commercially available electric actuator, and designing the mechanical and control interface, then integrate the electric actuation with the turbine control system.
Yes. Conversion engineering is delivered as an option within a controls upgrade, so the electric actuation is integrated and tuned with the upgraded control system rather than added separately.
We evaluate the existing valve, actuator, and control requirements to determine whether an electric conversion is appropriate and what interface is required, assessing feasibility for the specific valve and control bandwidth before recommending a conversion.

A MESSAGE FROM JOHN KAZOUR, CEO

Welcome to Innova Technologies

To our customers and partners,

For more than 50 years, our team has helped customers keep critical operations running. We built our reputation as Petrotech by taking responsibility for control systems on important rotating machinery.

As more industries came to us with similar challenges across power generation, compression, and hydro applications, our engineering team kept finding ways to solve them. Eventually, the business outgrew the Petrotech name.

We are entering our next chapter as Innova Technologies. The new name reflects the full scope of our work as a rotating machinery control systems specialist. We engineer controls around the machine, deliver complete projects from design through commissioning, and provide support that stays with the problem until it is solved.

Our name is changing, but the people, engineering experience, and commitment behind the work continue. Our responsibility to active projects and installed systems carries forward under the Innova Technologies name. Your current contacts remain the right place to start, and we will communicate directly if an administrative record requires an update.

We appreciate the trust you have placed in us over the decades, and we look forward to continuing that work as Innova Technologies.
